besides assuming that version 5 offers more security and debugs, is there something cool hidden away inside the new version that is going to make the site even more hip and fab ?
Funnily, I wondered recently what version of PHP you were using. We can hope better performances, right? But that mean most of the code is still using the old class system, I suppose.
good, php4 has some serious security issues. PHP5 does too though. Still - considering new features - I'm a bit miffed at PHP5 not supporting multiple class inheritance.. anyway, I guess I should not whine about a scripting language, but I would have use for such a feature..
Btw, did you try to embed the PHP engine into a C++ program? IIRC you mentioned that at some point, or was it only PHP module development? I looked into PHP for using as scripting engine for a project, and it was hell/undocumented, so I went with python which had very nice bindings via boost... but python is not as nice a language as PHP...
in the context of learning it the first time coming from a C background, IMHO PHP is much friendlier. which was the most important factor here... Both are scripting languages which can do most things anyway...
Also this is a highly personal opinion, not much to discuss really, sorry Also is really pointless for me to post this in the first place, you have to forgive me on that one
I really like and appreciate the IT team keeping us updated, but it would be great if these announcements were fleshed out so that non-techie people could somewhat understand them. I have no idea what it means that you are "pleased to see 100's of thousands of lines of code get the comb over and changes and review necessary to make this happen." What about a comb over?

Excuse me, Sir?
